Maybe you think dental emergencies only involve “standard” oral problems. After all, most people link urgent mouth issues to things like toothaches, knocked-out teeth, etc. Truthfully, though, a dental crisis can get pretty odd at times. It’s to the point that some patients’ dilemmas are hard to believe. If you’d like to get details, your local Plano dentist can readily explain. To that end, here are five of the strangest dental emergencies ever to happen.
Don’t Use Super Glue!
True enough, super glue can fix many things – broken furniture, craft projects, etc. However, one patient learned too well that it shouldn’t go in your mouth.
You see, a woman once tried using superglue to reattach a dental crown. Despite her efforts, though, the cap wouldn’t stay put. Worse yet, she glued her teeth together and got glue all over her mouth and throat. The result was an ordeal that was worse than her original crown issue.
A Garden in Your Mouth
Sometimes, a dental emergency only turns strange at the actual visit. That was the case for one man who suffered from a nagging toothache and gum pain.
So the story goes, only after seeing his dentist did the man learn the true cause of his problem. In particular, it was a tomato seed stuck between his teeth. The little thing had started growing and pressing on surrounding mouth tissues.
The Calculus Bridge Case
You might already know that uncleaned teeth suffer from plaque and tartar. Still, were you aware that these latter materials can build up into a calculus bridge? If that ever happened, your teeth would be at serious risk of tooth loss.
Ultimately, one dental patient learned this fact the hard way. They tried to brush their bridge away aggressively, but doing so caused many teeth to fall out. This action, in turn, led to a pricey treatment.
A Real “Jaw Breaker”
Surprisingly, some dental emergencies occur at otherwise normal dental visits. The dentist or patient can get carried away, leading to an accident.
One such emergency was particularly strange. While attempting to extract a tooth, they mistakenly broke their patient’s jaw! This led to the individual having their jaw wired shut for two whole months.
No DIY Drilling
As you might know, some people like to use DIY dental solutions. They think treating an oral issue on their own is more convenient than involving a dentist. Unfortunately, this effort often backfires and causes more trouble than it’s worth.
One patient didn’t grasp this point until it was too late. Desperate to treat their decayed tooth, they attempted a DIY root canal with their drill. This situation got a drill bit stuck in the affected tooth.
Even if you’ve had oral issues, you probably haven’t faced the strangest dental emergencies ever. That being the case, learn the ones above to value your oral health!
